MOVIE: BABIES

Last Wednesday we went to watch the movie "Everybody loves... Babies". It is a very interesting documentary about 3 different babies from different countries. The first baby lives in Africa. The second baby lives in Japan. The third lives in Mongolia. The last baby lives in the USA.

The babies had completly different lives. I am going to talk about the differences between the babies from Japan and Mongolia. They have completly different background.

The Japanese baby lives in a developed country. She grows up with a lot of confort and attention from her mom.This baby lives in a big city with all the facilities from a big city. She always has her mom with her. Her mom gives her attention and love.

On the other hand, the baby from Mongolia has a very different life. His mom isn't with him all the time. He lives in the country side. The pace looks like a farm, but he lives in a place similar to a tent. This baby spends a lot of time by himself. He rarely wears diapers. His mom looks live very cold. In the documentary I didn't see any demonstrtion of love between the Mongolian mom and her baby. It looks like this baby is growing up by himself.

I like this movie because it shows how the same generation can be very different depend on the place where they are born.

TURKMENISTAN

This video show a little about Turkmen Beautiful.

The Turkmenistan was declared independent on October 27, 1991. It had been part of the Sovietic Union for 69 years.

It is bordered by Afghanistan, Ian, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Caspian Sea.

Its capital is Ashgabat. The official language is Turkmen. Many people still speak Russian in Turkmenistan.

The population in Turkmenistan is around 5,110,000 people.

The climate is subtropical desert with little rainfall. Turkmenistan is one of the driest desert in the world. Because over 80% of the country is covered by the Karakum desert.

Islan is the domiant religion in this country.

Turkmenistan has the fourth largest reserves of natural gas and sub statial oil resourses.

The Stoning of Soraya

This movie is based on a real story. I was shocked when I watched. I can't believe those things still happen around the world and no one does anything about it. This movie made me very sad. It was a huge injustice that was committed because of a selfish man. It is a very hard reality! After watching this movie I got very anxious to know about this case and what happened to the men that stoned Soraya and especially with her sons. I believe that "what goes around comes around". I would like to know what happened to those people that killed this innocent woman. Sometimes I think I can do something to change the world, but I think It is just a dream. Because I know in reality I can't do anything.

MUSLIM CLOTHING - CUSTOMS

The Qur'an instructs Muslin woman and man to dress in a modest way. The way that they should wear the clothes depends on the kind of Muslim they are followers.




The most radical Muslim requires that women cover all their bodies including face, hair and hands. They usually wear a Burqa. The Burqa is worn over the usual daily clothing. It is required in Afghanistan and North Western Pakistan.












In some areas, women are required to cover all their bodies with the exception of the front part of the face and hands (from the wrist area to fingers). They usually wear Jilbab. It is a garment/sheet that is worn on the head, draped around the body and completely covers the body of the woman. They also can wear Abaya (cloak). It is a robe like dress. In Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates women must wear Abaya or Jilbab. In India, Indonesia, Iran and Turkey they are not obligated but you can see them wearing that.

A LITTLE INTRODUCTION ABOUT SYRIA

Syria is located in the Asia Continent. It is bordered with Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Israel and Jordan. Syria is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea.
The capital of Syria is Damascus.
The Syrian population is 21,762,978 people.
The official language is Arabic. There are people that speak Kurdish, Armenian, Aramaic, Circassian and English.
The main religion in Syria is Muslim.
The government is a Republic, but the regime is authoritarian military. That means they have a president approved by popular referendum, but the president is military.
The military service is compulsory for men who turn 18 years old.
In Syria, the climate is very hot, dry and sunny. The winter is mild and it can have snow.

LETS STUDY ASIA

This Term we are going to study Asia Continent. We will study many countries from this Continent... I have never studied the Asia Continent.
I am very excited about this class!
My first assignment is about Syria... I love the Syrian food, but I don't know anything about this country. I can't wait to start searching about this country!!!

ITALIAN FOOD

People from Italy love eating! They take food very seriously! Their food are very rich in carbohydrates and meats. They have very heavy meals.




Traditionally for breakfast they have coffee, pane (crusty bread) with fresh jam, panini (fresh bread rolls), brioche (breakfast pastries), cornetti (croissants) and marmellata (fresh jams of different types). Their breakfast are usually full of sweets. They rarely have salty food for breakfast.










The lunch is the most important meal for Italians. The lunch is divided in antipasto or appetizer, primo piatto or first course, secondo piatto or second course, and dessert. They always drink water with a meal and sometimes they drink wine.The dessert is always followed by coffee.



Antipastos usually are bruschettas, prosciutto, breads , and cheese.


In the first course they usually eat pasta or risotto.





For the second course they usually have meat (fish, chicken or beef), vegetables and/or salads.







Italians have for dessert fruits, gelattos or tortas.










After all this food, for dinner usually they have a "light" meal, like salamis, pizzas, salads, fruits and coffee.

Italy is a beautiful place to visit. There are many places with natural beauty. There are beaches, ruins and mountains. It is an amazing place with wonderful scenery. For me it has been hard to choose one place to visit. If you are thinking in going to Italy you should do a tour for the main cities. Here are the "Top 10 Places to visit in Italy".

Geography of Italy

Italy is located in Southern Europe. a peninsula extending into the central Mediterranean Sea, northeast of Tunisia. Italy has 301,230 sq Km.
The countries that make border with Italy are Austria, France, Holy See (Vatican City), San Marino, Slovenia, Switserland.
The population is around 58,103,033 people.


The Geography of Italy has two mountain ranges called the Alps and the Apennines.


The highest mountain summit is Mont Blanc (it's knowing as Monte Bianco). It is located 4180 meters or 5,781 feet above sea levels.

Italy has two volcanoes, one is close to Naples and the other is in Sicily (this is the only one active).





Italy is also a land of lakes. The largest lake is Lake Garda with 370 Km2.

How is the Italian Climate?

The climate of Italy is highly diversified with extremes ranging from frigid in the higher elevations of the Alps and Apennine, to semitropical along the coast of Ligurian Sea and western coast of the lower peninsula.
The average annual temperature, however, ranges from about 11° to 19° C (about 52° to 66° F); it is about 13° C (about 55° F) in the Po Valley, about 18° C (about 64° F) in Sicily, and about 14.5° C (about 58° F) in the coastal lowlands.



SUMMER: The Northern parts (Turin, Milan and Bologna) are warm with occasional rainfall. Central region is somewhat stifled by humidity. South is very hot and dry.

WINTER: Milan,Turin and Venice are dominated by cold, damp and fog. Tuscany's winter temperature approach freezing while temperatures in the south of the country are more favorable ( Between 50° and 60°F).




The best time to visit Italy is in Spring (April-May) and Autumn (September-October) when the weather is good and there are few tourists.
